    Love English,Love ES(English school)

Good morning teachers, my fellow students,
I’m very glad to stand here to talk about the third English Festival of our school. I think lots of students can’t wait for it. A month ago, the members of Student Union came to ask me about the plan of English Festival. They were eager to participate in this festival, and now it does come. You want to know what activities we will have. OK, let me tell you. If you are good at singing or music, don’t miss the singing competition. It will be held every afternoon at the middle hall. We offer you a stage and hope you can bring us exciting moments. If you feel a bit shy about speaking English in front of so many people, what about English writing competition. Five topics are given to you to choose. They are Our school and I, Challenges faced by English learners, My ideal English teacher, My experience as an English learner, What can I do for our country. You can choose one of them that you like. Writing is an important part in our exams. So you have to practice it as much as possible. If you want to speak standard English with native accent, we have movie dubbing contest. We have held this activity many times. The students in Junior 1 and 2 like it very much. It is not only interesting but also can practice your English. As we know, the younger a person is, the stronger the imitative ability is. Some top students like Liu Churan, Liu Chuang, and Chi Hanci etc. when they were your age, started with movie dubbing. After that they made rapid progress in their pronunciation and intonation. If you want to be actors or actresses in the future, you can think about English Show Competition. I’m sure the students in Senior 1 and 2 speak very good English. On the stage you can show us your perfect English and actions.
Many students may ask “How can I learn English well?”? In my opinion, learning English calls for hard-work and perseverance. You need to listen more, speak more, read more and write more. Just like an idiom says, “Practice makes Perfect.” That’s why we carry on English Festival, the aim of these activities is to provide us students more opportunities to practice using the English language.
    Dear teachers and students,
It is the time for us all to grow up together.
Let"s listen to English, and listen happily
Let"s speak English, and tell about our school life.
Let"s read English books, and they will carry us to every corner of the world.
Let"s write in English, and write the song about the true, the good and the beautiful.
Let"s act in English, act out our wonderful life.
    Come on, teachers and students.
We are the beautiful future of the earth.
In the end, we wish our English Festival great success!
    That"s all!Thank you!

I am very happy to be given the opportunity to stand here as a student representative. While standing here for less than 3 minutes, I’d like to talk about my opinion about this festival.
As you can all see, on top of your heads, it says: to cultivate a new generation to enter this world, a world that is filled with globalization.” To really be globalized, one has to be able to utilize English, and how we are going to manipulate this foreign language, is the point I am going to make here.
As a student from the Sino-Canadian program, I am very proud that all of us can communicate in an efficient way. I suppose everyday in your English class, all you do is listening to your teacher talking about all sorts of grammar points. To a globalized student, this is far from enough. As all of you might know, some of the most renowned English language tests, TOEFL and IELTS, examine foreigners’ ability to no only read and listen, but also speak and write. And that is of no exception in the National High School Exam. Through this special festival, every one of us has the chance to perform in a variety of ways. We can act out Shakespeare’s drama play; we can sing songs in English (one of my mentors once told me that singing is the best way to improve one’s oral English.); we can even engage in all kinds of English conversation. What a great opportunity it is for all of us.
To tell you guys the truth, the last time our class has appeared in big school events was when we performed our adapted play “the Glass Menagerie”. As a director, I miss that kind of experience. It’s so wonderful to see everyone participate in a teamwork dramatic performance. This year, no matter how we are going to take part in this festival, all I hope is that everyone’s English can improve as much as possible.
Coming to the end of my speech, I’d like to quote from a famous philosopher: “To grasp a language is to understand a completely new culture; once you grasp it, you are a new but more advanced person.”
                                                                                               Thank you
