[font=楷体_GB2312]【王志宏老师按语】 我们的新版高一教材课程进行到了Book 4，第一单元讲的是Women of Achievement （成功的女性），正好单元的结束时是五一长假期，就在假期作业最后列了一篇题为“the greatest woman in my heart”的作文。注明为有灵感而至的心得，不是必交作业。当时也就是想着能够借此能让学生去看看想想一些榜样人物，多少受些触动，别把这宝贵的长假全数嬉戏掉,也就算尽力了。 见到的是，返校的当晚就有三四篇交来，而且大都能是一气呵成的心得。到第二天又有数篇交来。这当中有崇拜女王武则天的，有敬仰国母宋庆龄的，也有感动于名将邓亚萍的，还有对韩国历史剧目中的女强者深为感叹的，更有把自己对亲爱的妈妈的敬爱至无以复加的深情表达。 看完并稍事改过之后，就不免贪心起来——想着如何鼓励学生们再接再厉。就把它们推荐给了学校资讯中心，居然得到了想象中的鼓励和支持。至于点评工作，我请了本届学生的初中英语科任老师——英文功底深厚的陈彤老师来做。既偷了懒，又达到了向这些写作者们的初中科任老师汇报学生进步之喜的美意。[/font] [b]The Most Colourful & Powerful One of the Feminie in My Mind[/b]Wu Zetian is the woman who is generally considered as a wonder and a legend as she was the first and the only one women emperor in the 5000 years of the Chinese history.As is known to everybody , in ancient China ，women were thought to be better than men in no way. It seems that Wu Zetian was trying to change the traditional idea. She was born in a family, which was rich in Tang Dynasty, and was named Wu Zhao. Because of her family, she was born with a strong desire of power.She was a born beauty, with full intelligence at the same time. Despite of that seldom happened in ancient china, her father taught her how to read and write. She was chosen to be sent into the palace at the age of fourteen.After she became one of the imperial concubines, she wasn’t satisfied. She contended with the empress under the surface. She soon won the race between her and the empress and became the new empress herself. But what was special was that she was still eager to go higher. On the way that she was striving to become the emperor she behaved cruel and merciless. She had even killed her own child to make herself nearer the .throne.Coming through sets of preparations, finally she reached the top height. She changed Tang Dynasty to Zhou. It came to be seen very soon that she had an outstanding ability on policy. She set up a system of final imperial examination called ‘Dianshi’ in Chinese, with which she had found persons with ability. She considered agriculture as the base of the country so that she paid lots of attention to it. The agricultural production has increased rapidly during her time. Also she protected her land well from the other nation’s attack. She was better than most of the emperors ever before as a woman, though she was so cruel that thousands of thousands of people died because of her. After her death, they made her a large stele with no words for others to appraise.Above all, she was a shining star in the tremendous feudal history, though she didn’t really succeed in breaking away with the feudality, and she inspired lots of women to try doing things as men. It was She who first proved that women have the same ability as men do. Thus in my personal opinion, Wu is the greatest woman, and the good example with furthest aim and strongest determination for both women and men. Some of them have passed away, but others still live around us. Now I want to introduce a great woman, Anson Chan. When you see the name “Anson”, you may think of a boy. But this time “Anson” is for a lady. Mrs. Anson Chan is called “The Most Influencing Lady” to all the people in Hong Kong.Mrs. Anson Chan was born on January 17, 1940 in Shanghai. When she was 8 years old, she moved to Hong Kong with her family. She studied English and English Literature in Hong Kong University and got the L.B. degree. After her graduation, she joined the Hong Kong Government. Then, her career began.Mrs. Chan was a pioneer in many fields. In 1962, she was one of the first three women recruited into the Administrative Office grade, the top echelon of the administrative. She successfully held much senior position dealing with finance, the economy, commerce, industry and social services. As a member and office bearer of the Association of Female Senior Civil Servant, she fought for equal benefits for female civil servants. Thanks for her behaviour, women civil servant received pay parity in 1975 and equal eligibility to fringe benefits in November 1981. In November 1993, Mrs. Anson was appointed as Chief Secretary. She was the first Chinese as well as the first female to be appointed to the top civil service job in more than 150 years of British administrative. When the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region was established on July 1, 1997, Mrs. Chan was appointed the first Chief Secretary for Administration of the HKSAR.Mrs. Chan has worked in the government for many years. Also she has made great contribution for Hong Kong. She was made a Justice of the Peace in 1975 and a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in 1922. In July 1999 she was awarded the Hussar’s highest honour, the Grand Bauhinia Medal.Mrs. Anson retired at the end of April 2001, in order to spend more time with her family. But now, she still works for the Children Commonweal Service.She is just a woman, but she is more than a man. No matter how noisy it was, nothing could disturb her.The girl turned great scientist when she grew up, and she was Mrs. Curie.As is known to all, Mrs. Curie and her husband, as well as a scientist, discovered the famous element called radium, which made them gain the Nobel Prize in 1903. Unfortunately, Mr. Curie died in an accident three years later. But Mrs. Curie wasn’t knocked down by this easily.After the death of husband, Mrs. Curie carried on doing research as she educated her daughters.I can see how bad the condition was when Mrs. Curie worked. A lonely but strong-minded woman did the research in a very small, lightless and simple lab. All that she did was unthinkable to those who looked down upon women at that time. Mrs. Curie was the special, for she made the miracles by her hard work that other women could not achieve. She made efforts in about 35 years’ time. It was really a long time. But I think it was short to Mrs. Curie. She always wanted to do more and more for the whole world’s people even at moment before dying.Mrs. Curie said that she had experienced a lot and had to face the difficulties by herself. For example, she often just had a little bread and a few eggs or some fruit for her lunch and supper because she had to save her time and money. Besides, she lived alone, and sometimes she would have some strange feelings when the loneliness came close to her. However, she liked her job and enjoyed studying, so she didn’t care about it at all.In the history of science of the world, Mary Curie is a name that will never die. This great woman is the only one of the scientists who got the Nobel Prize twice on two different subjects. Though she has been dead for a long time, her spirit will live in everyone’s heart forever.Let’s give our deepest respect to Mrs. Curie! And work our best to follow her example all our life! Her great character has influenced many people not only in her time but also in today’s society.She’s the lady who was curious. When she was a child, she always asked her parents questions about things she saw and heard. She persevered in learning to read and write though at that time plebeians were not allowed to it. She’s never satisfied with things she had learned. She always wanted to know more. As a cook in the King’s Kitchen, she always wanted to know more about food and learn more about skills of cuisine. When she became a physician in the palace, she’s always busy in researching herbal medicine and diagnostics which had never been seen before.She dared to try and she dared to create. Janggeum was lived at the time when people were fogeyish and would not like to accept new things. But Janggeum was different from them. She was willing to try new things. As her teacher once said:”Jangguem can create savor.” She always create new dishes which not only made her to be one of the best cooks in the kitchen but also made her the envy of the Suis who drove her out of the palace then.However she never gave up. As her mother told her before she died, she must be the best person in Korea and never let others look down upon, she began to study leech craft when she was out of the palace. Then she came back to the palace as a physician in everybody’s surprise. It’s really hard to imagine how many difficulties she came through. It was the rigidly hierarchical and male-dominated social structure that she was in. It must be a bumpy and endless way. But as she once said to herself:” Nobody can tell me to give up, I would never give up!” She tried, she failed and she tried again. Finally she did it. With her consummate leechcrft, she finally served as head physician to the king. And she was given the name ,Dae Janggeum, by the king.But Jangguem didn’t hope her lechcrft could only be used to help the royalties. She loved her people, and she wanted to help them. So she asked the queen to let her go out of the palace so that she can help more people.Janggeum was such a lady who was kind, determined, aspirant and full of attractiveness.She’s like a jewel ,shining in the palace and to the world! We all know her fame, but the life she went through was hard. But only did she live such a hard life, she became a successful person for all China’s people.When she was a child, her family moved abroad, so she got more scientific knowledge the others who were on the main land, for at that time, China had just went out of the funeral society.When they moved back to China, Song qing-ling was just a young lady, but she and her sisters all joined in saving the Old China.She could have live happily with her family, in a very rich life ,but all changed when she met a key, the founding father of China----Sun yi-xian. Sun was Song qing-ling’s father’s friend, at that time, he had already begin his plan of saving China. As time passed, Song found that she was attracted by sun, for his spirit, so she wanted to marry herself to him. But her father wouldn’t , even got angry with Sun, after all, he was too old to marry her. But nothing could change her mind. She went away with Sun and got married.She was such a person, not only lived for others but also for herself. And this was the beginning of her success.After Sun yi-xian’s death, Jiang ie-shi came to power, and the relation between Kuomintang and communist Party came to break up. As Jiang’s wife was Song qing-ling’s young sister, so he wanted Song qing-ling to support him. But Song didn’t join him, and went to help the communist Party, which was not so strong as Kuomintang then. This choice made her away from her family again, but she wasn’t frightened, for she knew she had made the right choice, the way for every people in china, and the history tells us ,her mind is really right..Song qing-ling is such a lady, she didn’t care for herself but always thought for others, not only a little, but all in the country.Always, many people were just living with an empty body, but song----a lady, devoted her whole life to her country, to the 22% of the world’s people. She saved the old society with others, she shouted, used her spirit to make everyone esteem her. And she, just did what she wanted and what she could to help her people. And she does love me.What is her “L-O-V-E” to me?“L” means “Listener”. Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, she is always being my first listener. Facing her, I have no secret with pouring out on her all that upsets me. Facing her, I am always drowning myself in her arms with weeping the bitter tear. Facing her, I do gain the real peace and gentle comfortwith whispering in my ear. After that, she tells me ,“Though you gain nothing after hard working , but the work is its own reward. And you can never be admired by all , just a few are enough.” We hang each other again and again , and I think the moment the whole world.“O” means “observation”. Whenever she is, her mind is filled with the observation on me, whether offering her hand when I’m down. “You should learn to stand on your own two feet” she’s always saying. Every time she pretends as if none of her business when I fail, however, I know that she has fixed her eyes upon me already. Every time she pretends as if sparing no effort to do her housework when I ‘m worried, however, I know, she has put her ears closely related to my breath already.“V” means “vacancy”. Whatever I like, she accepts by all means. She believes my choice, and supports all that I want to try doing. Because she believes that, “it pays to let child try themselves as one will know after trying, better by far than mouthful warning. ” she gives me chance to breathe in the “open air”, as she says, “what makes up your life is up to you.”“E” means “encouragement”. However many times failure I have had, she gives me encouragement. Her determining voice comes to my ears, “when something we don’t like happens to us, we have two options: to become a bitter person or a better person……. There are no mistakes, only lessons. Haste makes waste……life is not always that fair, but time is. Don’t let your time slide through your finger by living in the past or the future…….who laughs best who laughs last……you’re my daughter ,no matter what happens…… ”Filled fully with her love, I gradually know that, being her daughter is a remarkable gift that heaven has presented me.Long before now, I made up my mind to protect the pure “love”. And I must be strong and steadfast enough, so that to return her—my greatest woman, to live with welfare under my wing someday. She is the greatest player in the ping-pong history. And she is an inspiring model for me to learn from all my life! She is short but not thin, she is mild but not coward. She began to play table tennis at her age of 5, and her first coach was her father. After more than sixteen years’ training, she won her first championship in the Ping-pong Game of the world. Three years later, she took place in the Olympic Games and won two gold medals. She is the first girl to get the first in three games that are the most important games in the world. What a crackerjack girl!After she put down her ping-pong bat, she went to Qinghua University to develop herself and began the English professional study. After three months’ English study, Deng ya-ping went to Britain to do her further study in Cambridge University. In fact, before Deng ya-ping left Chinese ping-pong team, her student’s career has already begun. If we want to know why she decided to study again, I think it is her character for refusing to stop her steps and she will never give up whatever difficulties she might meet.In 1997, Deng ya-ping was recommended to be a member in the International Olympic Committee. She suddenly realized that she should make more contributions for our country and even for the world, besides on the table tennis. Now that she has got a precious opportunity, she won’t give up facilely. After that she began to study English even harder. And before long, her English has a great progress. She became an ambassador of the committee to host Olympic Game in 2000 finally.As we know there are many athletes who have chosen to study in order to make better their career, but not so many can achieve as successfully and have made such big contributions like Deng ya-ping after leaving the sports field. How can she be so successful as in both sports and studies and even official work? That only answer I believe lies in her ever-lasting hard working and her spirit of never giving up.Above all, I take no hesitation to set Deng as my lifelong model to inspire myself to study and work hard. And it is her spirit that has always encouraged me to smooth away many difficulties. And, with her spirit to encourage me, I believe I will never give up whenever and wherever. I let my mind wondered------My books came in front of me and introduced some friends to share my sadness. Thank Goodness had learned so much from them. I was so lost in reading these writers that I was to tell you the things about them.The first was Liuyong.I have read a book which he wrote to his dither called <To souses by yourself>.The world is a fine place and worth fighting for. A clever person is always have their own idea and hard to change by others. When I finished the book, I told myself: Try to learn by yourself, try to think by your self when you have trouble. Liuyong is a good example who was succeed by himself out of poor .He said: Study is a progressive discovery of our own ignorance. The purpose of it is to replace an empty mind with an open one.The second person is Loyola famous commentator from the press crcles. She has interviewed many famous people by telling the stories about them. From his programs, I not only have got to know much experience about the successful person but also have learnt how to face the problems and regulate the mental state. I believe everything will be done well by your willing heart!The third person is a women writer called San Mao. She is special and so is her spirit. She lived in desert with her husband and helped a lot of dwellers there. I think she is a clever lady. The reason for this is that she is so brave that she can solve a lot of problems in the desert. She has a gift for making useful things from the olds into the news. She has her own mind. Once she has decided, no one can change it and she will do it successfully.Actually, There are many good persons around us .Their sprit will be remembered along.
